Residency program 2022–2024
Program | |
In cooperation with the association TanzNetzDresden and the partner organisations TanzART Kirschau, Mondstaubtheater Zwickau, TanzRaum Görlitz, Off-Bühne KOMPLEX from Chemnitz, LOFFT, 4fürTANZ Leipzig and TENZA Schmiede, the association Villa Wigman für TANZ e.V. initiated the large residency program ’TANZPAKT in residence’ from 2022 to 2024 in Dresden. The main goal is to further develop and strengthen the artistic quality of dance professionals in Saxony.
The residency program and the investive actions of the program TANZPAKT in residence (2022-2024) mainly support artists from Saxony. Artists with different biographies and artistic journeys are supported to develop uniquely and form a reputation that lasts nationally and internationally. By making the program results publicly visible, dance-interested people from the region are invited to take part in this process, and the opportunity to invite future national and international partners to increase exchange across national borders is offered.
During the years 2022-24, 18 RESIDENCIES will be announced. A jury decides about the allocation. Next to the research work, every residency includes a workshop given by the residency artist for interested professionals and non-professionals, as well as a workshop presentation.
Residents 2024 | |
On July 10, this year's TANZPAKT in residence jury selected five concepts from 28 applications for a research residency in 2024. Knowing the fragile financial situation of Saxon artists after the Corona pandemic, it was particularly difficult to decide against concepts. One of the most important selection criteria was that of recognizable artistic research and its methods. But regional balance, biographical location or the strengthening potential through a residency, also played a fundamental role. The selection reflects the versatility and vitality of the Saxon independent scene, although many voices are missing. The jury is more than aware of this. Thematically, we can look forward to sagas and myths, techniques of disappearance or new connections between human and non-human body parts in 2024.
This year's jury, consisting of Cindy Hammer (go plastic company) Anne-Cathrin Lessel (LOFFT - DAS THEATER) and Ilona Schaal (Theater Rampe), would like to thank all artists for their submissions and the time they spent on them.
The villa\wigman, TanzNetzDresden and all partner venues of TANZPAKT in residence congratulate the five selected artists.

Residents 2023 | |
This year's jury of the open call for TANZPAKT in residence - Melanie Suchy, freelance dance journalist (Frankfurt am Main, Düsseldorf), Gabriele Bocek, artistic director at the Mondstaubtheater Zwickau and dance educator (Zwickau) as well as Katja Erfurth, member of the artistic management team of villa\wigman, dancer, choreographer (Dresden) - selected eight residencies for the year 2023 from 27 applications on November 3, 2022.
The jury attached great importance to a recognizable research approach and at the same time their selection represents the versatility of the Saxon scene. The topics range from documentary research on the textile industry in Saxony and biographical work with people at the residency site to research into emotions, phenomena of non-linear dynamics or the question of home in a foreign country.
