Etienne Aweh's residency project is about developing different methods to enter into an artistic exchange with people living in Kirschau and the surrounding area in order to use their biographies as a starting point for artistic work. Etienne will research how to develop his own dance solos based on people's stories. How can works of art from the exhibition at the Flox gallery located there also be used to enter into an artistic exchange with people? Can the stories and the inspiration from the artworks be connected with each other?
Workshops | 8./15./22./29.11., 6.30–8.30 p.m.
and 18.11./25.11./9.12., 10 a.m.–1 p.m., TanzArt Studio Kirschau
During his artist residency, Etienne Aweh would like to develop a dance project about life in Upper Lusatia together with local residents. He is looking for people between the ages of 12 and 80+ who are interested in embarking on this dance journey. No previous dance experience is necessary, just a desire and openness for creative movement and exploration.
Etienne Aweh completed his dance studies at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden. He was a member of the Dance Company Theater Osnabrück for two seasons and then worked as a guest at the theaters in Lüneburg, Görlitz, Münster and Rostock. In addition to his work with the collective "four rooms" in Dresden, he has created dance projects for the Bach Night Marienmünster, the Leipzig Bach Festival and the International Organ Summer Naumburg. In 2021, he developed a performance for the Dresden State Art Collections in the Japanese Palace as part of the exhibition "Speechlessness". His current focus is on dance education. He works at the Gymnasium Dresden-Bühlau in the artistic profile and as a dance teacher at the DomeLab - Schülercamp im Hygiene Museum Dresden, at the Schüler*innentheatertreffen Sachsen (STTS) and at "die Bühne" Theater der TU Dresden. Etienne Aweh is a certified Pilates trainer and Laban movement analyst (CLMA).
TanzART - Atelier for Dance, Movement & Art is a center for contemporary dance with participatory projects in beautiful Schirgiswalde-Kirschau. There is room for art here in the countryside - lots of room! In the former textile factory, which now forms the heart of the art initiative "Im Friese", there is room for every creative idea. The studio (70 square meters), a residence room, shared kitchen and bathroom are a good basis for creativity. Performances and exchanges with visual artists and regional dance makers take place in the gallery. Residents who want to work with local people and artists are particularly welcome here. TanzART combines rural idyll with supra-regional and international networks and has welcomed guests from Indonesia, the USA, India and the Netherlands in recent years.
