residence plus residency | |
Mental health issues are on the rise among young people. Many young people are worried about the future, feel overwhelmed or lonely, and are affected by grief or low mood. According to studies, around one in six young people in Germany is affected by mental health issues.
As part of the residency, the aim is to develop a framework for working with young people on a dance performance exploring their stresses, worries and fears, which can later be applied in independent project work or in schools. Which teaching, improvisational and choreographic methods are suitable for engaging young people in a creative and dance-based process and facilitating a dialogue about their individual and shared stresses, worries and fears? How can the issues that concern them, and the associated thoughts and feelings, be translated into movement?
The educational, improvisational and choreographic tools developed will be tested in a series of workshops with young people. Over the course of the creative process, initial images and sequences for a potential performance will be developed using movement, dance and voice.

Workshops: Choreographic Lab
The Choreographic Lab is aimed at teenagers and young adults aged between 14 and 18 who enjoy expressing themselves through movement and dance. Under the guidance of a dance teacher, participants engage in a creative dance process and learn improvisational and choreographic techniques to create their own movement sequences. The workshops focus on the stresses, worries and fears experienced by young people, with the specific topics to be explored being identified and decided upon together with the workshop participants. Through individual, partner and group activities, participants explore ways of expressing their thoughts and feelings through movement, dance and voice.
Participation is free of charge.
The workshop is open to anyone aged between 14 and 18, regardless of prior experience or a particular dance style. It is preferable, but not essential, to attend all sessions.
Please register via choreographiclab@web.de.
