A day dedicated to dance to mark the 100th anniversary of the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, featuring panel discussions, talks and insights into dance practice.
As part of a one-day event featuring artistic, participatory and discursive formats, contemporary dance practice, archive materials and discussions with contemporary witnesses come together to shed light on the development of modern dance in Saxony. The history and institutionalisation of modern dance is characterised above all by strong female personalities, primarily Mary Wigman and Gret Palucca in Dresden. The anniversary of the school founded by Palucca is an opportunity for the cooperation partners to link different perspectives on the beginnings with current dance practice, to question the emancipation processes associated with the emergence of modern dance in Dresden and to reflect on these processes through artistic means.
The villa\wigman, as Wigman's former school, is a place of historical significance for dance, and its current use as a laboratory for contemporary dance and other performing arts makes it the ideal venue for this event.
The event is part of a series in which the cooperation partners jointly encourage the exploration and further development of the tradition of modern dance in eastern Germany.
