Open Monument Day 2025 | Photo: © Katharina Grottker
Dear friends and supporters of villa\wigman,
dear neighborhood,
in October and November, villa\wigman will once again open its doors to the public and invite visitors to two exciting events: With PARCOURS³ #2, dancer and choreographer Charles A. Washington will curate a second special tour of villa\wigman on 19 October and 23 November: Together with three artists, he will create an artistic tour of the house that will allow visitors to experience the rooms, stories and perspectives in a new way. On 25 October, villa\wigman will become a venue for celebration: Tanzarchiv Leipzig e.V. will host a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Palucca University of Dance – a significant moment in Dresden's dance history. At the same time, the building continues to undergo structural changes: on the first floor, Mary Wigman's former living quarters are gradually being converted into new residential areas for artists. The renovation is progressing well – the building is continuing to open up.
See you soon at villa\wigman!

This autumn, we are continuing our special event series PARCOURS³ with two further tours – on 19 October and 23 November at 12 noon and 3 p.m. – curated by dancer and choreographer Charles A. Washington: PARCOURS³ #2 explores the tension between structure and freedom, with structure bearing the weight of oppressive ideologies and freedom embodying fleeting artistic expression. Three characters – a historian, a creative spirit and a figure of power – encounter Mary Wigman and the historic villa\wigman in a journey through time and myth. Participating artists are: David Le Thai, Zarina Stahnke, Charles A. Washington and Rika Yotsumoto.
The tours are limited to approximately 20 guests. Reservations or advance ticket purchases are recommended!

The ongoing renovation of Mary Wigman's former living quarters on the first floor of villa\wigman is accompanied by the creation of a future residential area. For the first time, the Wüstenrot Foundation has been won over to provide funding for this project. In recent weeks, the walls have been prepared for the future installation of electrical cables, door openings have been closed or adjusted, damaged beams in the floor have been repaired and insulation has been installed in the window area. An extensive restoration investigation revealed colour findings with rare silver and gold tones in monochrome interior design, which impressively testify to Mary Wigman's creative vision. The aim of the renovation work is to bring this back to life. In order to finance the valuable silver and gold pigments for the new coat of paint, we ask for your support:

To mark the anniversary of the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, artistic, participatory and discursive formats will meet contemporary dance practice, archive materials and discussions with contemporary witnesses at the villa\wigman on Saturday, 25 October, thus shedding light on the development of modern dance in Saxony. Strong women shaped modern dance in Dresden – above all Mary Wigman and Gret Palucca. The anniversary of the Palucca School takes this as an opportunity to connect history and the present and to reflect artistically on emancipation through dance. Admission is free.
