Dear friends and supporters of villa\wigman,
dear neighborhood,
The past year ended and the new year begins with a lot of noise, dust and sweat, which we are very happy about. Because that means that the renovation of the villa\wigman is continuing. The renovation of the floor and walls in the longitudinal and transverse corridors of the intermediate building was completed in January and the corridor now shines again in its historic green. At the same time, the next construction phase began in the Great Hall to renovate and modernize the floor. This renovation work and the still uncertain funding situation due to the pending budget decision by the state capital of Dresden mean that we are currently unable to plan and announce events in the long term. We are therefore all the more pleased that the federal program TANZPAKT in residence is still offering a residency at our venue in January and February: Katja Erfurth is researching and investigating Mary Wigman's arrival in Dresden around 1910. We cordially invite you to the workshop and final presentation as part of the residency in February at villa\wigman.
With this in mind, have a good start to the new year and see you soon!
We are delighted that there will be an additional TANZPAKT residency at our venue in January and February this year: As part of her residency, the Dresden dancer and choreographer will be researching the time of Mary Wigman's arrival in Dresden around 1910. At this time, Mary Wigman still bore her real name Marie Wiegmann and was driven by an unconditional desire for self-determination, artistic exploration and economic independence. She began training at Émile Jaques-Dalcroze's “Rhythmic Training Institute” and moved into a shared flat with fellow students in the Hellerau garden city “Am grünen Zipfel”. The work phases and results of Katja Erfurth's residency will be made visible and tangible to the public at a workshop on February 15 and a final presentation on February 21. Both events will take place in the villa\wigman and we cordially invite you to attend.

As part of the current budget negotiations, Dresden's cultural institutions and the city's independent cultural scene are facing massive cuts to their budgets and project funding. In a joint petition, the cultural institutions make it clear why adequate cultural and educational funding is absolutely essential. We support this petition and would like to ask you for your support. The petition can be signed until March 3, 2025.
