Dear friends and supporters of villa\wigman,
dear neighborhood,
May and June are full of activity—both literally and figuratively: American composer and theater artist John Moran is beginning his second residency in Görlitz, and on June 6, we’ll be hosting a special book presentation here at our venue: Expressive Dance, the Balkans, and the Legacy of Mary Wigman—we look forward to this evening with author Elka Tschernokoshewa. We’ve also made significant progress toward our goal for the “Let There Be Light” fundraising campaign—and we’d appreciate your support in this final stretch.
Enjoy the read!

Dancer, choreographer, and dance educator Leoni Eibes is currently in residence at TENZA in Dresden as part of the “residence plus” program. During her residency, she is developing a concept for dance-based work with young people—starting from the question of how the stresses, worries, and fears of young people can be expressed through movement and dance. At the Choreographic Lab, she put her ideas to the test in a real-world setting: working with young people aged 14 to 18, and open to everyone—regardless of prior experience.

On June 6, 2026, at 7 p.m., cultural anthropologist and philosopher Elka Tschernokoshewa will present her new book, *The Dancing Human*, at villa\wigman—and she’ll be sharing a special story: One chapter is dedicated to Marija Dimova, a Bulgarian dancer and choreographer who studied with Mary Wigman and is considered the founder of expressive dance in Bulgaria. Through a conversation with the author, supplemented by a short film, connections between Wigman’s legacy, contemporary dance, and the dance traditions of the Balkans will become apparent. Admission is free.

American composer and theater artist John Moran has completed his first residency as part of the residence plus program—in collaboration with the NCCA Görlitz. He is collecting audio and visual material for a musical theater portrait of people from Görlitz that brings together dancers, performers, and musicians.
Come check it out—there are two opportunities to experience his work live in Görlitz: On June 6, John Moran will lead a one-day workshop at the Kunsthalle Görlitz titled “Communicating with the Audience – Body Language and Pacing” – an introduction to his techniques for theatrical timing, featuring video analysis and practical movement exercises.
In addition, on June 7 at the Kunsthalle Görlitz, he will present his piece "Etudes: Amsterdam", followed by a discussion with the audience.
