In her artistic research, Vasiliki Bara is currently exploring traditional Greek circle dances. Building on her most recent dance production, “LASKARINES,” she hopes to deepen this exploration as part of the “residence plus” program. The focus is on the question of how movement material from traditional circle dances can be reimagined, transformed, and recontextualized in contemporary dance. During the residency, she intends to collect movement material for an installation-based solo performance. Drawing on the communal experience of circle dances, Vasiliki Bara will explore how this movement material is inscribed within a single body. What traces of community remain in the soloist’s body? How does the meaning of movement change when it is detached from the circle and carried by a single body? In parallel, she will develop a workshop that emphasizes the communal dimension of circle dances. Through dancing together, participants will gain practical experience of aspects such as connectedness, participation, and collective experience.

Vasiliki Bara works as a dancer and choreographer in Leipzig. After completing her master’s degree in dance studies at Freie Universität Berlin, she presented her first choreographic works, “A Piece of God” (2019) and “From the Other Side” (2021), as part of the Werkstattmacher series in Leipzig. This was followed by choreographic commissions for the Tanzlabor Leipzig (“The Dream,” 2022; “The Person I Am,” 2023), the Leipziger Tanztheater (“Lust,” 2023), the Theater der Jungen Welt (“Gruselwusel,” 2024), Synergy of Music Theatre Larissa (“Lust for Life,” 2024), and the Schauspiel Leipzig (“Twelfth Night,” 2026). Her most recent works include her solo performance “inside human” (2024), which was presented at the Schaubühne Lindenfels, and the dance performance “LASKARINES” (2025), created in co-production with LOFFT – DAS THEATER. The latter will go on tour in 2026 and can be seen in Greece and Austria.
