Workshop | 20. April, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Under the direction of Tran Xuan Nam, participants in this workshop will gain a comprehensive insight into the values, techniques and practices of hip-hop dance. The focus of the course is on improvisation.

Through various tasks and approaches, the understanding of movement is expanded and the newly acquired knowledge can be integrated into one's own dance.

No previous knowledge is required for the workshop, but openness to movement and a willingness to learn are welcome. Cost per participant: €5 (donation recommended). Registration at: tickets@taupunkt-chemnitz.de

Before Tran Xuan Nam ends his residency at Taupunkt/the Off-Bühne KOMPLEX in April, he invites you to his showing and presents first insights into the results of his research work. During his residency at Off-Bühne KOMPLEX, Tran Xuan Nam dealt with myths and legends and their role and influence in our everyday lives today. In this context, he also explores how street and club dances such as hip hop, which became established in the USA in the 1970s, can be defined differently aesthetically and in terms of their expression in the context of dance theater.

Tran Xuan Nam is a versatile and internationally active hip hop dancer from Chemnitz. Since 2021, he has also been working freelance in dance theater productions, mainly under the Miller de Nobili company, with numerous performances such as at the 2022 Dance Platform in Berlin, the Festspielhaus Hellerau - European Center for the Arts and RIDCC 2023 in Rotterdam. He was also able to gain further experience as a dancer in productions by choreographers Los Informalls, Joy Alpuerto Ritter and Fang Yun Lo, which influenced his still relatively young artistic practice. Nam's main interest is to combine street & club dance styles, especially hip hop, with contemporary methods and perspectives in order to find his own signature with which he can enrich the local, regional and national scene, and Nam is also part of the dance studio "Room -Hip Hop Spot" in Chemnitz, founded in 2021, where he helps organize dance events and occasionally teaches.
