Residency:
7. 2026
The residency brings together performers, dancers and choreographers. They ask themselves: who are the artistic role models in difficult times? What is the role of art in times of crisis? How can it preserve its aesthetic autonomy and its freedom from specific purposes? The five contributions are linked by a playful approach to material and to one’s own body: somewhere between meticulous planning and absolute unpredictability.
Can lightness in artistic practice be understood as an act of resistance? In this context, we explore concepts such as gravity, balance and weight, experiment with objects and incorporate our own vulnerability and emotional experiences. From this, we develop experimental set-ups: linear sequences are translated into spatial processes. A tiny impulse sets a complex, fragile world in motion.
Artistic team:
Angelika Waniek works in a transdisciplinary manner at the intersection of performance, visual practices and artistic research. Her artistic practice is characterised by an exploration of site-specific, performative situations; this gives rise to works that exist between space and media structure, integrating performative and installation-based methods.
One focus is on the interplay between the body, documentation and the archive as mutually interdependent forms of storing and activating memory.
Her work has been exhibited at venues including: Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, Kunstraum IDEAL, Schaubühne Lindenfels, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts, sophiensaele, Brandenburg Museum for the Future, the Present and History, and Theater Rampe.
Initiatives:
when paper performs - Talks on performance and publications
you are warmly invited - Initiative for feedback and reflection on the progress of projects in the performing arts
