An insight into villa\wigman

villa\wigman - space for performing arts opens up its windows and doors and offers diverse in- and outsights. The artists dedicate different events to the live and work of Mary Wigman and the place as a historic-cultural monument.

Through Villa Wigman, Mary Wigman created a dance-historically important place. For two years, the association Villa Wigman für TANZ e.V. not only exposes the monument layer by layer through renovations, but also investigates the history of the place through artistic practice.

The collage TANZ mit Brüchen takes Mary Wigman’s time from Weimar Republic to National Socialism in five artistic disputes into focus. In 1920, Mary Wigman guested with a solo evening in Dresden where her novel dance style and the power of her artistic expression was picked up enthusiastically. In the same year, she moved to Dresden, founded her school for dance and celebrated successes in Europe and the USA, where she was praised as the creator of the New German Dance. She danced and taught throughout the time of Weimar Republic into the time of National Socialism.

The event is supported within „Bleibt neugierig. Kulturstadt Dresden 2022“. From July to December 2022, „Bleibt neugierig. Kulturstadt Dresden 2022“ offers a city-wide stage to independent initiatives and cultural institutions for additional ideas and projects. From Gorbitz to Striesen, from Pieschen to Laubegast, from dance, theatre and music to exhibitions, workshops and hands-on activities. The audience - young and old - can expect diverse encounters, fun and impulses at unusual places, open air or at theatre halls. „Bleibt neugierig. Kulturstadt Dresden 2022“ is part of the special program „Kulturland 2022. Sachsen als Bühne“.
