Caroline Beach is looking for possibilities to archive scores for failures or ’Schiffswracks’. She goes into this residency with a collection of tools and naive strategies to investigate how we internalise catastrophes and how we can use breaks and fractures to imagine a number of futures in the present.

Workshop „Scoring Imaginaries“

In these workshops, we will explore how score writing, in its broadest sense, can be used as a generative tool. Drawing on practices of collaging, assembling, and sampling, we will explore how placing two things side by side can create a third object. We will play with the imaginary: Places, audiences, performances that slide in and out of possibility. This workshop is open to anyone curious about approaching process and practice in an embodied way.

Caroline Beach has been exploring the rituals of failure in her residency - using a variety of locations in Chemnitz. Nature such as the Gablenzbach and striking buildings such as St. Mark's Church or the "Nischel", the Karl Marx Monument, have inspired her and will now be integrated into her final presentation in film footage. The basis is an episodic collage that moves between dance and performance. The focus is on the process.

Caroline Beach is a choreographer and artist. She completed a Master’s degree in choreography at the Palucca Hochschule für Tanz in Dresden and is currently doing a Master’s degree at the Academy of Fine Arts Künste Nürnberg under Johannes Paul Raether. Her work is interdisciplinary, but finds its roots in the embodied experience of the body.

Taupunkt e.V. was founded in 2013 and consists of theatre producers and enthusiasts. The theatre association has its focus on experimental theatre and they perform at the Off-Bühne Komplex and in the public space of the future cultural capital Chemnitz through guest performances, co-productions and their own work. They create an exchange between local actors, education institutions and amateurs through workshops and theater-pedagogical projects. Many of the actors from the association have been active in the culture sector in Chemnitz for a long time. A number of contacts to local event and festival organisers (Der Rahmen ist Programm, Tage der jüdischen Kultur…), as well as connections to the independent scene on local as well as on international and European level, especially to Czech Republic, Slovenia, France and Finland, exists.

The Off-Bühne Komplex is a former church in the backyard of Zietenstraße 32 and offers space for 75 visitors and a professional infrastructure. It’s located at the Sonnenberg in an interesting environment of a socially disadvantaged neighbourhood with many social and sub-cultural offers. It’s also located next to Kreativachse, which is supposed to be developed until 2025. Not only through the participation in the residency program flausen+ is the association used to supporting artists.
